We all saw the SONA jokes and memes (like the one below) shared on social media after President Jacob Zuma delivered the State of the Nation Address on Thursday evening… but there are three other pictures  that are proving even more popular than the jokes.

SONA speaker joke
One of the many memes shared after SONA 2016, referencing the speaker.

Pravin

The first is a photo shared by SAPeople early this morning on Facebook, taken by Adil Nchabeleng. It shows that barely hours after the SONA 2016 speech, which was mostly about cost-cutting in government, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was setting an example by flying economy up to Joburg… and working on the way.

Nchabeleng posted a few photos, congratulating “this wonderful man, simple down-to-earth leader who leads by example. I met him coming back from Cape Town on a last (midnight) flight from the SONA. He flew ordinary class and was amongst the people. This is an example of good leadership. Our leaders in the ANC must lead by example. Leadership with a conscience.”

SAPeople follower Sthembiso Isaac Manyoni agreed, saying: “We share the same street with the former finance minister, before and after his portfolio in finance. I think I have never seen him with bodyguards and big convoys…”

GOOD SAMARITAN

Carla Catalina Bernardo captured this scene. She said: “Literally the most beautiful thing in all this chaos. An elderly ANC supporter fell and dislocated his shoulder. Cars cannot get through to take him to the hospital, ambulance did not respond. A giant of a man, a stranger, kneels down in front of him and offers to help. Yonela Diko and the stranger work together to wrap his arm. #SONA2016”

For all those who complained that the SONA speech sounded a lot like last year’s speech, Arthur Goldstuck posted this screenshot allegedly taken on the government’s website – Gov.za. Goldstuck said: “If you thought President Zuma’s 2016 State of the Nation Address sounded a little repetitive, here is a clue from the Government website. See the date they give alongside the 2016 SONA:”

SONA address

BUT perhaps that pic was photoshopped, or the government has updated the date… because it definitely says 2016 now:
