Eskom CEO Brian Molefe said on Thursday no more load shedding was anticipated in South Africa through summer of 2017, except for planned maintenance.

Addressing the media in a quarterly State of the System briefing, Molefe said there had been no load shedding since August 2015. He said that capacity was being progressively added, and several stations would be fully commissioned over the next seven years: Ingula by 2017, Medupi by 2020 and Khusile by 2022.

Molefe reportedly said the reduced load shedding had nothing to do with people using less electricity but improved performance.

Molefe, though upbeat, did not go as far as President Jacob Zuma who, on a visit to Eskom last week, said that load shedding was a thing of the past.
