For at least the second time in ten days, elephant have wandered down the main road between Mica and Hoedspruit. The first time – 30 May – it was one rogue elephant. And last night, according to LetabaHerald.co.za, this herd was spotted strolling – quite calmly – down the road.

Lafras Verwey – from Hoedspruit’s Farm Watch – captured photos of the scene and jokingly told the Hoedspruit Herald that the herd “turned left onto the Mica/Gravelotte road without even using indicators”.

Hoedspruit Farm Watch was able to usher the bulls back to the spot where they had entered the road.

According to wildlife experts this problem is likely to continue and is probably caused by a lack of food, due to the devastating drought (with more greenery found near the tar roads), exacerbated by over-population.
