Working on Fire (WoF) uploaded this dramatic video footage of the current Stilbaai (Still Bay) Fire this evening… which shows just how long and huge the dark plume of smoke is.

In a facebook update at 21h00, WoF said it is still an “active fire line burning out of control” and that “ground crew committed to #SavingLivesAnd #ProtectingTheEnvironment”.

The fire was declared a Code Red earlier today. WoF said at 18h00 Tuesday evening  that close to 90 of their firefighters had been assisting the Hessequa Municipality, Eden District Municipality and PDMC. A fixed wing bomber had been deployed to help douse the flames.

Today there were close to 240 firefighters assisting at multiple ongoing fires in the Western Cape.

The Du Toitskloof Pass Fire entered its second day. WoF said approximately 1,055 hectares of veld had been burnt thus far. “According to Dale Nortjie – a house has burnt, and four houses as well as a security company property have been damaged by the fire. Residents were told to evacuate their homes in the early hours of Tuesday morning due to the smoke.”

Close to 35 firefighters are assisting Cape Nature and the Cape Winelands District Municipality in an ongoing effort to contain a fire at Misgund; and the Deer Park Fire which raged last night has been contained.
