Yesterday in Parliament, National Assembly Speaker, Baleka Mbete, made the ultimate Freudian slip when she called Cyril Ramaphosa “Honourable President” before quickly correcting herself.
Watch below as Parliament erupted in laughter. The DA’s John Steenhuisen was quick to joke that he wanted to draw the Speaker’s attention to “Rule 63 – the rule of anticipation”. The Speaker laughed.
So too did Ramaphosa, currently SA’s Deputy President, as he took the microphone to answer the first question in the question-and-answer session to MPs.
Ramaphosa, along with President Jacob Zuma’s ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, is a hot contender to be the next ANC leader – and potential president of South Africa – when Zuma steps down in December.
