New South African Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula, has taken the time to pledge his support to police officers around the country… as well as to their family members.

Earlier this week, he acknowledged the thankless – and life-threatening – job South African Police Service (SAPS) officers undertake, whilst visiting a call centre in Midrand. This weekend, he tweeted a video of what he had said, and wrote: “Do you have a SAPS officer in your family or you are one. This is my message to you.”

Mbalula said while police are seldom thanked for their job, “we who are your leadership, we want to say: keep going, and doing a great job for this great nation and protect our people. Remember our motto and our battle cry: protect and serve. Don’t take bribes. Don’t be a corrupt policeman. Be an honest policeman.”

He said: “Be aware of the criminals at all times” who are “relentless in their efforts to render ungovernability in the Republic. Continue to serve our people with honesty and honour. You will be recognised.  And you are recognised now. And we salute you for your dedication and the good work.

He ended off saying: “From the Minister of Police, former Minister of Sports and Recreation, who was called Razzmatazz… I’m now Minister of Ensuring That There is Law and Order in the Republic… so let’s razzmatazz them!”

Officers and their families were quick to thank the Minister for his thoughtful remarks, with one saying: “I’m a proud police officer, committed myself to serve for my country… let us Razzzz-Matazzzz them my minister!”
