A heavy storm hit parts of Johannesburg and Gauteng today including Braamfontein, Berea and Houghton… causing several roads to be flooded and train services stopped.

Gauteng Province Metro Rail said: “All lines are flooded at Johannesburg East. No train movement at the moment.”

The downpour, described on social media as a “massive storm” caused flooding and heavy delays in Main Road near the CBD, Old Vereeniging Road, the R55,  Joe Slovo Drive and Louis Botha Avenue.

Motorists helped each other navigate safer routes by sharing crucial information on social media on which roads to avoid.

But it wasn’t just Joburg that experienced extreme weather today – in the Free State there was hail… and in Lesotho there was snow!
