Just over a week ago, the video below surfaced on Facebook showing a python regurgitating a whole cat, whilst being captured to be transported to a safer place. Social media users said the incident occurred at Richard’s Bay harbour, but this has not yet been confirmed.

According to one social media user, Peter Gillatt: “Sometimes it happens that a rescued snake will regurgitate its last meal during capture or relocation. 100% better than it ending up dead.”

He said it’s a stress and escape strategy, as it makes them more manoeuvrable.

Peter says a bite from a python of this size could cause “nasty lacerations that may require stitching”.
