Former ‘Village Boy’: Never Give Up Even If Exclusive Books Rejects You!

By Bheki Zungu

As the year 2018 draws to a close, I would like to reflect on it by revisiting some of the the major rejections I have had to deal with over the years, starting with the many I received as a village boy, when applying for bursaries in 1991, so I could be the first one in my family, to go to university… writes Bheki Zungu.

I wrote and posted so many letters I cannot even remember the number, but they were so many. I kept on sending the letters and the regret letters kept streaming in from the Post Office.

“We regret to inform you that your application has not been successful, however, we wish you all the best with your future endeavours” they said. Nevertheless, those rejections could not stop me from pursuing my dream of getting a degree.

The rejection by Exclusive Books late last year (when I asked to distribute my books through some of their stores) reminded me of those rejections, but one thing I know, is that one day my books will be sold at their stores.

My message to everyone out there who is facing challenges right now, I want to say to them they must keep believing, and not let the setbacks stop them from pursuing their God-given calling and ultimately reach their full potential.
