South African singer Selkii will be seen dazzling the judges of The Voice in America on Monday evening.
As seen in a ‘sneak peek’ Blind Auditions 2019 video that The Voice released a few days ago, Selkii ‘stands out’ with her version of Macy Gray’s ‘I Try’.
The sneak peek shows two judges turning around, including Maroon 5’s Adam Levine who shows his delight when Selkii reveals she’s from South Africa.
“That is an instant victory for me. My wife is from Namibia,” he says of model Behati Prinsloo.
“Yes. Congratulations!” answers Selkii, who’s real name is Jessica Yallup.
Writing on her Facebook page today, Selkii – who’s from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal – said: “Soooooooo excited for tonight’s episode of the Voice! Don’t forget to tune in at 8pm on NBC – it’s going to be a goodie 🥰”
On Saturday, she said: “Beyond excited and overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and appreciation for something that brings me so much joy! I’m grateful to get this opportunity to represent a little city called Durban and can’t wait for what the next Mondays have in store! #8pm #monday #thevoice 💖 #grateful #feelingthelove #nbcthevoice #leaked”
One of her longtime friends and supporters said: “Durban is maybe a little city, that doesn’t prevent that it raised a huge talent, Always fully with you!!!”
According to a New York radio station, Selkii became well known as a performer on the Disney Cruise Lines.
This season, songwriter John Legend makes his debut as a coach, alongside country singer Kelly Clarkson, Levine, Blake Shelton. The show, which has won four Emmy awards, is hosted by Carson Daly.
