ANC Disbands Party Leadership in the Western Cape

The national executive committee of the African National Congress has disbanded its party leadership in the Western Cape, after infighting over the last several years that has received extensive coverage in the media, especially before the 2017 Nasrec elections.

On Tuesday the ANC also disbanded the leadership of the ANC Youth League, and replaced it with a national task team.

In a statement released by ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe today, the ANC’s NEC expressed concern over the functioning of the Provincial Executive Committee in the Western Cape, “whose growing internal disintegration turn (sic) to play itself out in the public, making it difficult for the PEC to discharge its duties.”

A team would be sent to the Western Cape to engage with members “as part of organisational building and renewal.” The Democratic Alliance has had a majority in the Western Cape since 2009 and in Cape Town since 2011.

“The ANC efforts to reclaim the Western Cape remains (sic) firmly on course,” Mabe said.
