Ndlovu Youth Choir put an amazing South African spin on singing Toto’s famous ‘Africa’ last night on the world’s biggest stage – America’s Got Talent (AGT).
AGT said: “The Ndlovu Youth Choir believes that if you can dream it, you can do it. The choir puts Limpopo on the map with this amazing performance of “Africa” by Toto.”
The talent competition, which invited the Choir to participate in this year’s event, described the song as “taking a trip home with Ndlovu Youth Choir”.
The Choir itself, who have inspired with their journey from poverty to the world stage, said: “Tonight we were proud young ambassadors of a united world.”
Later they added: “Tonight we were proud young ambassadors of a united Africa. Our beautiful continent has the world’s youngest population and our hope is that our performance reflected the talent, opportunity and potential of millions of young people. One nation, one continent.”
World famous judge Simon Cowell told the Ndlovu Youth Choir: “You have ended, with that performance, and I really mean this, the best Final I have ever sat on in my life.”
Cowell said he always prays that the show will help change people’s lives, and he thinks their performance “may have just done it”.
UPDATE: Although the Ndlovu Youth Choir did not win AGT 2019, they will forever be winners in South Africans’ hearts. They flew the flag high for SA at a tough time in the country’s history… and lifted the spirits of all who heard them.
