South Africa’s beloved Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been admitted to hospital in Cape Town for a recurring issue.

In a short statement from the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, it said:

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been admitted to hospital for treatment of a stubborn infection, Mrs Leah Tutu said today.

The Archbishop has been hospitalised several times over the past few years for treatment of a similar condition.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and veteran of South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle has reportedly been struggling from prostate cancer for about 20 years.

Tutu celebrated his 88th birthday in October, and last month celebrated South Africa’s momentous Rugby World Cup win by meeting the Springboks during their Victory Tour. See photos below.

After meeting the Boks in Cape Town, Tutu – who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 – said: “What this group of youngsters has achieved speaks, beyond rugby, to the possibility of what we can be. No matter where we come from, if we reach for the stars we can actually touch them.”
