In a year when we’re all holding thumbs that My Octopus Teacher wins an Oscar, we’ve got good news for South Africans on where you can watch the 93rd Academy Awards live.

Where can you watch the Academy Awards / Oscars in South Africa?

You can be a part of one of the world’s most glamorous events by watching the Oscars® on DStv’s M-Net Movies 1 (DStv channel 104) at 02:00 on Monday, 26 April.

The Awards will also be rebroadcast at 22:30 on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and is to be presented by acting and musical heavyweights Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Zendaya and many more A-list celebrities.

Oscars ceremony was delayed

Delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Oscars® ceremony is taking place two months after it was scheduled and will be treated as a film production in which audience members will not have to wear masks. The nomination announcements were done by Hollywood power couple Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas early last month.

Standout nominated content includes Soul, which is nominated for Best Animated Feature, Best Sound and Best Original Score. Soul introduces Joe Gardner, played by Jamie Foxx, as a music teacher who finally gets his big break only to misstep into the ‘Great Before’. It’s available to rent on DStv’s BoxOffice.

Oscar-nominated content coming to DStv

Other nominated content coming to DStv includes The United States vs Billie Holiday, which received an Academy nomination for Andra Day in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role; Judas and the Black Messiah nominated for Best Original Screenplay and more; and Promising Young Woman, which walked away with a whopping five nominations.

There’s also Love and Monsters – nominated for best visual effects, and directed by South African Michael Matthews.

Watch all the glitz and glam that is The Oscars® on M-Net Movies 1 (DStv Channel 104) at 02:00, or tune into the rebroadcast on Monday, 26 April at 22:30 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101).
