President Cyril Ramaphosa has tweeted a special message to South Africa’s wheelchair tennis star, KG (Kgothatso Montjane), who has made it through to the Final today at the world’s most famous tennis championship – Wimbledon, in London.

“You’ve already made us proud” – President Ramaphosa

President Ramaphosa said: “Kgothatso Montjane plays her first grand slam singles final @Wimbledon today. @KGMontjane1 may the serves be sound and the forehands flow as you continue to fly the flag. You will have your coach and the entire country with you. You’ve already made us proud. Let’s ace this one!??”

An elated Tennis South Africa declared today “#KGMontjaneDay ?”

The 35-year-old SA sports star will be in action at the All-England Lawn Tennis Club, from 18h00 (SAST) onwards, according to Tennis SA.

Her opponent is Wimbledon’s number one seed, Diede de Groot (25) from the Netherlands.

This morning, Kate Middleton watched the men’s wheelchair singles final with her dad, Michael Middleton.

KG, who has made Wimbledon history as the first South African black woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final, is hoping to inspire others in SA and the whole African continent. She says: “When the young generation sees someone doing well, it inspires them to take up the sport… I also want them to realise that no matter what challenges you face, as long as you want it, you can always get it.”

US tennis legend Billie Jean King also tweeted a special message to KG after the wheelchair tennis star won the semi-finals to go through to the final today!
