Global Citizen Live – the global moment of unity in the mission to defend the planet and defeat poverty – is taking place right now. Watch the live video stream below. It’s just moved from Paris (Ed Sheeran rocked it!) to New York City.

The once-in-a-generation 24-hour Global Citizen Live broadcast is coming from six continents, including iconic locations around the world in: Lagos, Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Paris, London, Seoul, Los Angeles, and Sydney; and with performances from a huge lineup of the world’s hugest artists, including Billie Eilish, BTS, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Femi Kuti, Lizzo, Lorde, Stormzy, Tiwa Savage, Usher, and lots more.

South African media personality and Global Citizen Advocate Bonang Matheba and actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha are taking the stage in NYC as presenters.

Global Citizen said: “As social activists and advocates of goodwill through their respective philanthropic work, Ms. Matheba and Ms. Mbatha’s involvement in Global Citizen Live is a wonderful progression of our partnerships established since our Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 and our recent Vax Live campaigns.

“We are thrilled to, yet again, continue our social impact work together with Bonang and Nomzamo and to welcome them to this once-in-a-generation event at our Central Park stage on Sept. 25.” (Watch Bonang on A Very Bonang Year.)

Update: Nomzamo shone on stage, and introduced Prince Harry and Meghan to the stage.

South African artist Sho Madjozi will also be bringing her trademark energy-filled performance as she joins the lineup from Johannesburg alongside artist, Muzi.

Global Citizen Live’s mission is to unite activists, world leaders, governments, philanthropists, corporations, and Global Citizens in taking urgent action to create change.

Organisers say: “Global Citizen is a social action platform for a global generation that aims to solve the world’s biggest challenges.” These include eradicating poverty, addressing climate change and ensuring worldwide recovery with vaccine equity. The concert is raising awareness and funds.

One of the movement’s requests is that the G7 and EU help end the pandemic by donating at least 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to those in need, and to support the proposal by South Africa and India to waive IP around the production of COVID-19 vaccines and other medical tools — backed by over 100 countries.

SABC’s S3 will be broadcasting the show on Monday Sept. 27 at 10pm SAST.
