Manchester United football icon Cristiano Ronaldo (37) has announced the tragic loss of one of his twin babies. In a heartfelt statement, signed by Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez (28), the couple said they had lost their newborn baby son but revealed their new daughter had survived.

“It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our baby boy. It’s the worst pain any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all the care and support they provided. We are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. Our boy you are our angel. We will love you forever.”

Just earlier this month Ronaldo, who has embraced fatherhood, had posted a photo saying “family is everything”. For him, family has always come first. When he grew up in Portugal, the youngest of four children, he reportedly cried daily for a year when he first left the family to join Sporting Lisbon. Ronaldo already has a three-year-old daughter Alana Martina with Georgina; as well as an 11-year-old son, Christiano Jr and four-year-old twins (Mateo and Eva Maria).

The couple had announced they were expecting twins in October 2021, and in an Instagram video in December they revealed the genders.
