Ellen DeGeneres says she is “heartbroken” following the news that her longtime DJ, and executive producer on the Ellen show since 2014, died by suicide earlier this week. Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss – who was popular with South African and worldwide audiences – tragically passed away at the age of 40 in a hotel room, after leaving his home on foot on Monday morning.

His wife and fellow dancer Allison Holker Boss reportedly raised the alarm with police on Tuesday when he hadn’t returned home, and had not taken his vehicle. Police were then alerted by the Oak Tree Motel to his demise after they found his body with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ellen posted a photo with Boss on social media, writing: “I’m heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.”

Earlier today, Allison released a statement confirming: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us.”

She said: “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honour his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”

She ended her message saying: “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

Just three days ago, the couple celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary.

Fans writing on his posts have said of the man who seemed to always have a smile on his face: “How hard you must have worked to put on a brave face on social media to make the world think you were ok. I’m sorry you were hurting. You will be missed.”

On another post encouraging people to not give up, and that everything would be okay, someone wrote: “This post is so sad knowing you were internally struggling. What a sad day for all your fans, it’s always the ones that seem so happy, just goes to show you never know what’s really going on in someone’s heart ? “
