The six-year-old boy – who locals knew because he was often looking for food or small change – was apparently held down by thugs and pepper-sprayed before having his genitals cut off. Local residents, who were chasing after a couple of criminals (who had stolen a woman’s handbag), heard the injured boy’s cries for help.

When they found him lying in scrubland, covered in blood, they presumed he had been stabbed… and were horrified to discover the schoolboy, who was in a lot of pain, had been castrated.

The child was found on rough wasteland, near a gold mine at the Blue Skye informal settlement, and was close to death from loss of blood when found. Boksburg residents have been outraged by the news:

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions, said:

“Who would do such a thing to such a little boy – it really is the cruellest of the cruel. To pepper spray the little boy is bad enough, but to cut off his genitals is just barbaric and that kid will have mental issues for the rest of his life.

“I know the boy and he is often around looking for a bit of food or a bit of loose change, and he gets by and is always smiling and is always polite. He was found out in an overgrown field with his genitals missing and unable to see properly due to the pepper spray which is dreadfully painful on its own.”

Another, Chantel Naude said: “I am considering moving out of the area as we feel unsafe, as I have boys as well and don’t want them attacked (too).”

Another resident added: “The rumours are that it is Satanism, or taking body parts for a voodoo ritual, but this little boy will now not be able to have children ever.”

The emergency service refused to confirm if his penis was severed as well.

Boksburg South African Police station commander Colonel Matshedeso Mbele confirmed that they were investigating a case of attempted murder.

She refused to comment on the boy’s horrific injuries due to the nature of them, and said it was unknown as yet if it was adults or older children who had attacked him.

Colonel Mbele said the attack happened on 1 March 2023 and that paramedics rushed the victim to hospital. He is now in a stable condition.

A local resident explains how the little boy used to often stay with them, play with her grandson and how they would give him food, cool drink, shoes and clothes. She says they loved him very much, and held him in their hearts. She said they are shocked by what’s happened, and feel for him. She also said residents are now scared for their own children as the men who did this have still not been arrested.
