SuperSport United bought for R50 million?
A young businessman from Bloemfontein has reportedly bought Betway Premiership giants SuperSport United, ending the club’s era.

SuperSport United supporters have feared this moment since rumours began circulating in late 2024, Matsatsantsa a Pitori is officially shutting down.
After years of reported financial difficulties, the Multichoice-owned club has been sold to new owners.
According to leading South African sports journalist Robert Marawa, a young businessman from Bloemfontein bought SuperSport United for R50 million.
SUPERSPORT UNITED TO BECOME CELTIC UNITED
Since the Bloemfontein Celtic name is not yet available, the club will operate under the name Celtic United. Robert Marawa shared the news on social media, announcing that “Bloemfontein Celtic” is returning to the Premiership next season.
He revealed that a young businessman from Bloemfontein purchased SuperSport United’s status for R50 million and confirmed that the club will now compete as Celtic United.
Legacy of the giants
United originated from the club known as Pretoria City before sports broadcasting giant Multichoice bought it in 1994 and renamed it SuperSport United.
The new owners established stability, professionalism, and youth development. Under legendary coach Gavin Hunt, the club won the South African championship three times.
SuperSport United also secured domestic cups like the MTN8 in 2017 and 2019, and three Nedbank Cups in 2012, 2016, and 2017 with former coach Stuart Baxter.
Led by coach Eric Tinkler, the club gained continental recognition after reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2017.
