South Africa is finally retiring its paper-based green ID book as more banks join Home Affairs’ digital drive.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber confirmed that the country’s major banks will roll out Smart ID and passport services to at least 840 more branches within the next 12 months.

This announcement marks one of the most significant expansions of Home Affairs’ digital services to date and signals the beginning of the end for the outdated Green Book.
