SAFEST PLACES TO VISIT IN AFRICA IN 2024

Africa is often perceived as a continent with inherent risks when it comes to travelling. There are, however, many destinations that are considered to be among the safest places to visit in Africa in 2024.

TANZANIA

Tanzania is generally safe for travellers – most visits are crime-free. The country’s reputation as a popular safari destination is largely due to the exceptional standards of professionalism within its safari industry. BOTSWANA AND NAMIBIA

Two countries with low crime rates are Botswana and Namibia. Partly because of the political stability of the country, it’s rare for travellers to experience crime in Botswana.

MAURITIUS

Mauritius was identified by the latest World Population Review report as the safest country in Africa. It is a multicultural island nation that is family-friendly and secure. What little crime does occur tends to be non-violent, such as petty theft. 

The 2023 Global Peace Index, published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace, named Mauritius as Sub-Saharan Africa’s most peaceful country with Botswana in second place.

ZAMBIA

The US Department of State assigned Zambia a Level 1 travel advisory (exercise normal precautions). Zambia has few major security concerns. Most of the reported crimes are non-violent confrontations characterised as crimes of opportunity, e.g. theft of unattended possessions in public places.
