Gauteng dominates Top 10 list of most expensive private day schools in SA

Seven of the 10 most expensive private day schools in South Africa in 2024 are to be found in Gauteng.

While Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal remains the most expensive private day school in Mzansi, a look at the Top 10 list compiled and published by freelance writer Andrew Thompson on the TinyChart website clearly shows Gauteng holds sway overall.

Only three of Mzansi’s nine provinces feature in the list.

It will cost Kearsney College parents R240 900 for tuition for matriculants to attend the Botha’s Hill-based school this year.

St John’s College and Roedean School for Girls – both situated in Johannesburg – lie in second and third places, respectively.

Diocesan College, better known as ‘Bishops’, is the only Western Cape school in the Top 10 list, coming in fourth.

St Mary’s School, the second girls’ school in the top five, is followed by the Crawford College’s Sandton branch in sixth spot.

Reddam’s most elite operations – in Waterfall and Helderfontein – are close behind in a tie for seventh place, with King David High School Linksfield and Clifton College rounding out the top 10.

Note: The fees listed above are as they appear on the various schools’ websites and cover annual tuition only. Fees are for the highest level of learning available (up to grade 12).
