DRIVING LICENCE CARD PRINTING MACHINE NEEDS OEM PART

In the past, when the machine was out of order, the licence backlog grew and it emerged that there was only one such machine in the country.

On Wednesday, 3 May, the Department revealed that the problem with the driving licence printing machine started when it underwent routine maintenance between 5 and 19 April.

After the maintenance, there was a breakdown of a critical component and it needs a replacement part from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

“It is anticipated that the resumption of card production shall commence within the next 2-3 weeks,” said the Department.

In the statement, the Transport Department reassured the public that licence production would not be affected by this setback and encouraged the public to continue applying for their cards as usual.
