The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has advised that a heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng until Monday (08 January 2018).

Extremely hot conditions are expected over the Western Bushveld and Limpopo Valley until Monday (08 January 2018) with some parts expected to reach 41 degrees on Saturday.

SAWS has recommended that South Africans in those areas stay indoors in a cool room, near a fan if possible.

“The old and infirm must take extra care to stay hydrated and cool,” said SAWS in a press statement. “Avoid strenuous outdoor activity, playing excessive sport and hard labour.

“Dress in light weight clothes and drink plenty of liquids.. NOT alcohol.”

SA citizens are also advised to listen to the radio or TV for warnings and obey the instructions from disaster management officers.
