This is a call to action for women across South Africa to come together in their homes to connect, support and celebrate one another on Saturday 28 November during the 16 Days of Activism of no violence against women and children… writes Tracy Going.

PURPOSE

Too many women live in fear in our country, and the violence they experience shapes, shames and silences them. We are inviting women to unite virtually over lunch to share their stories because telling our stories is the very first step in the healing process. It is as we talk, that we remember, reclaim and heal. The Beyond Our Voices virtual lunch is a call to collective healing for women all over South Africa.

EVENT

The main lunch takes place at the Farm Sanctuary in Franschhoek, the home to Pigcasso, the world’s only painting pig. After lunch, the panelists who are all published authors will discuss the importance of sharing our stories as the first step in the healing process from trauma. This conversation on breaking our internal silence and the reclaiming of self will be facilitated by TV & Radio presenter Tracey Lange.

Panelists include:

  • Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng : Women’s rights activist | UN Special Rapporteur | Author
  • Natasha Sutherland : Actress | Director | Author

The highlight of the afternoon is when Pigcasso takes a stroke against domestic violence, producing a unique artwork that will be on auction to raise funds for When Love Hurts (NPO).

Our virtual lunch guests are invited to send in photos from around the country and fabulous
prizes are on offer.
