French club to hijack Orlando Pirates’ move for top African striker target?

Orlando Pirates could be set to be beaten to yet another target in this transfer window, after news that one of their striker targets could be moving to Europe instead!

Pirates also famously lost out to rivals Kaizer Chiefs for the services of Ranga Chivaviro, despite offering more for the player amid an agreement with his ex-club.

The Soweto giants have been linked with a whole host of strikers so far, including Chivaviro, Bensom Omala of Kenya and Ashley Cupido of the recently promoted Cape Town Spurs. Now in the midst of all of that, they’re are believed to be in the process of trying to get rid of strikers themselves, with Pirates having close to ten first team strikers on their books. It is believed that Ghanaian youngster Kwame Peprah is primed to be the first on the list to leave.

Already with Pirates reportedly trying to get rid of Cameroonian duo Souaibou Marou and Bienvenu Eva Nga, they’re also set to make decisions on the likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Tshegofatso Mabasa as well Boitumelo Radiopane. All of those players return to the Bucs camp having had varying degrees of success on their respective loan spells from last season.

But with regards to incomings, it was thought that Pirates would be welcoming Congolese striker Guy Mbenza imminently. Recent reports had even claimed that Mbenza was set to jet into South Africa to conclude a deal with the Buccaneers, after accepting their offer. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, that may not be the case anymore.

MBENZA TO SNUB PIRATES?

“As much as the player(Mbenza) has been open to the idea of a move to the DStv Premiership, there is another opportunity for him to go to France. He is a good player, a top player and is playing in Saudi Arabia for Al Tai. There is a European-based agent who is working on getting him a move to France.” Said a source to the same publication.

Will Mbenza be yet another one to slip away from Pirates?
