Breaking: Airlink aircraft involved in wet runway incident
An Airlink flight overran the runway in Mozambique this afternoon. Fortunately no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Privately-owned South African airline, Airlink, has confirmed that one of its aircraft was involved in a wet runway excursion on 18 January.
The incident occurred at around 15.30 when the aircraft was landing at Pemba in Mozambique.

NO FATALITIES
Airlink flight 4Z 204 from Johannesburg had 32 passengers and three crew onboard. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as yet.
All crew and passengers on the flight managed to exit the aircraft through the plane’s front door.

AIRLINK AIRCRAFT
The incident involving an Embraer 135 aircraft was not fatal but it would appear that the aircraft has sustained damage.
It will need to be retrieved from its position off the runway. Recovery teams will need to be dispatched for this.

PROVIDING ASSISTANCE
Local aviation authorities in Mozambique and their counterparts in South Africa are attending to the situation.
Airlink and airport personnel at Pemba are taking care of the passengers and crew.

PEMBA INCIDENT
According to the Club of Mozambique, the runway at Pemba Airport has been closed until further notice.
As soon as it re-opens, Airlink will send a back-up aircraft and a recovery team to Pemba, to assist with recovery of the aircraft, which aquaplaned off the runway.
