The assault case against South African record producer Chicco Twala has been postponed yet again at the Randburg Magistrates Court.

On Monday, 22 January, the matter was postponed for the 13th time since Twala was accused of allegedly assaulting two City Power employees in 2022.

Twala, who faces charges of assault and pointing a firearm, wants the case against him struck off the roll, calling it a waste of time and resources, as well as an abuse of power.

Chicco Twala is the father of Longwe Twala, who was one of the people inside the Vosloorus home of Kelly Khumalo’s family on the night that Senzo Meyiwa was killed

It is because of this that the 60-year old music mogul believes the state is not committed to proceeding with the case against him.

CHICCO TWALA ARRESTED FOR POINTING A TOY GUN?

Twala, who handed himself over to police at the time of the incident, maintains that he pulled out a toy gun on the City Power employees whom he mistook for cable thieves.

After being detained overnight, Twala released a statement about the incident saying his arrest was a defeat to all the “evil people” who portrayed him as the mafia man behind Meyiwa’s murder.

“Finally, I got arrested for pointing a toy gun to two men whom I thought were cable thieves who used a blackout to six houses at my recording studio.

For me, my arrest is a victory to me and defeat to all evil people who portray me as a Mafia who is behind Senzo Meyiwa’s killing.

My arrest is proof that I’m not above the law and I can be arrested if any person lays criminal charges against me. No one is above the law.

The complainant laid criminal charges and the police did their work by charging and locking me up.

Haters on social media claim that I bribed judges, including Beggie Cele (Bheki Cele – Police Minister), whom I don’t even know, to protect my son who is accused by haters of killing Senzo Meyiwa.

Where will I get that kind of money to bribe all these powerful people? Also why must I defend a killer?”

POSTPONED TO NEXT MONTH

The assault case against Chicco Twala has been postponed to next month, this time owing to the health condition of a state witness.

According to Twala’s lawyer, Lesley Sedibe, the state witness failed to appear in court on Monday, due to an issue with his eye.

There were no medical records to support the witness’ claims that he has an eye infection, injury or an eye operation which will reportedly tak 3-months to heal.

The matter has been postponed to 13 February.
