City of Ekurhuleni offers FREE courses to residents

In a bid to empower the youth and unemployed residents, the City of Ekurhuleni pioneers free online courses.

The City of Ekurhuleni is promoting opportunities for the youth and unemployed residents by offering a series of free online courses aimed at enhancing knowledge in entrepreneurship and business.

These courses, presented by international technology company CISCO in collaboration with the City of Ekurhuleni, the National Library of South Africa, and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, are open for applications until 26 January 2024.

THE CURRICULUM: ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY

The curriculum comprises a two-part series spanning approximately three months. The first segment, ‘Discovering Entrepreneurship and Creating Compelling Reports,’ lays the groundwork for the second part, ‘Launching a Business Venture and Engaging Stakeholders for Success.’

“To ensure that we leave no one behind, candidates who have successfully registered can complete these free online courses at any of the city’s 47 libraries which offer free access to computers and Wi-Fi connection.

“However, those who have access to their own devices can access the relevant cites from anywhere,” said the City’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS APPLYING FOR THE FREE COURSES

To qualify, applicants must be residents of the City of Ekurhuleni, have completed Grade 12, not possess a formal business-related qualification, and commit to completing the courses.

The city emphasises its commitment to leaving no one behind, offering opportunities for progression to the next set of courses upon successful completion.

While encouraging all Ekurhuleni residents to apply, the city gives preference to unemployed youth if courses have limited capacity. For inquiries or clarification, candidates can email info.libraries@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
