The DA is expected to march to the office of Water Minister and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, today, Wednesday, 15 November, over the Gauteng water crisis.

DA PREMIER CANDIDATE TO HEAD THE MARCH

The march will be led by the DA Gauteng Premier candidate, Solly Msimanga MPL, and Member of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Water and Sanitation, Stephen Moore MP, who will hand over a memorandum of demands.

“The constant absence of water that the residents of Gauteng have been experiencing these past months, inflicts profound hardship, compromising the livelihoods and overall well-being of communities,” Msimanga stated the reason for the march.
“Over the past months, the DA’s petition calling on the CEO of Rand Water to be fired has gathered thousands of signatures. The people of Gauteng have had enough,” he added.

DEMANDS OVER WATER CHALLENGES

After marching to the municipality led by provincial leader and premier candidate, the DA made the following demands:

  • Immediate Resolution: We demand that the municipality takes swift and effective action to resolve the water crisis. This includes identifying the root causes of the crisis, allocating necessary resources, and implementing a comprehensive plan to restore regular water supply to all affected areas.
  • Transparent Communication: We require regular and transparent communication regarding the progress made in resolving the crisis.
  • Accountability: We insist on accountability for any mismanagement or negligence that has contributed to the water crisis.
  • Long-Term Solutions: The municipality must commit to developing and implementing long-term solutions to prevent the recurrence of such a crisis. This includes investing in infrastructure, improving water management practices, and addressing any underlying issues that have contributed to the crisis.
  • A detailed plan on how the municipality intends to deal with the water losses.
  • Community Involvement: We demand active involvement of the community in the decision-making and planning processes related to water supply and management.
