Hofmeyr and Petzer in court due to public violence

Devon Hofmeyr, Willem Petzer and Tewie Wessels appeared together on Monday in the district court in Groblersdal, Limpopo, on charges of public violence.

Reports from inside the court indicated that five heavily armed police officers were present when they appeared at the dock.

According to a report by Maroela Media, the fourth suspect, Dries Olivier, could not appear in court because he submitted a sick note to the Groblersdal police office.

Photos of Wessels, Hofmeyr and Petzer reporting early in the morning with their bags at the police station were shared on social media.

According to the preliminary indictment, they will face charges related to public violence and obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties, among other things.

On January 24, the three were part of a demonstration outside the magistrate’s court in Groblersdal, where Piet Groenewald (63) and Stephan Greeff (27) appeared.

THEY WERE PART OF A DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE THE MAGISTRATE’S COURT

They are accused of assaulting a worker and allegedly unleashing a security dog ​​on him. About 100 protesters, mostly from the Bittereinders movement, descended on the town with the Transvaals Vierkleur of the then Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, to demand their release.

The marchers and police members clashed and Francois van der Merwe, a leader of the Bittereinders, was arrested.

The Maroela Media report stated the state indicated on Monday that bail would be opposed.

Devon Hofmeyr is the son of the well-known Afrikaans singer, Steve Hofmeyr.
