Power utility Eskom confirmed in an X post on Tuesday that load shedding will be suspended until Wednesday afternoon.

Eskom said that: “Due to the return of six generating units, which improved the available generation capacity, load shedding will be suspended from 16:00 today (Tuesday) until 16:00 on Wednesday.

“Stage 2 load shedding will no longer be implemented from 16:00 today (Tuesday), as communicated previously.

“Eskom will provide a further update on Wednesday afternoon or if any significant changes occur.

“The evening peak demand for tonight (Tuesday) is 27 728MW. Unplanned unavailability is 13 840MW, while planned maintenance is currently at 5 066MW.”

Eskom pleaded with the public to switch off non-essential appliances to reduce the demand, especially between 17:00 and 21:00.

The South African website will keep the public abreast of the latest developments when changes occur.

With South Africa heading into a four-day long weekend, due to several businesses and industries shutting down, the demand for electricity will be lower.

This bodes well for those planning on cooking Easter Sunday lunch …
