Opposition parties say the National Day of Action march in Pretoria will go ahead despite the rain.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) tweeted: “Rain or shine, we will make our voices heard today!” and “We are united & together we have the power to remove the man who sold our country to the highest bidder!”

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema tweeted: “Rain or not we are going ahead with our #NationalDayofAction, let’s meet @ #ChurchSquare now fellow patriots. Now or never victory is certain.”

COPE leader Mosiua Lekota said South Africans won’t walk away from the march because of rain. “They are not made of sugar” he said. He also said of the ANC MPs – “how can you vote for somebody who has already broken the law” and implored them to make a difference and answer to the people.

One supporter who is already at the gathering in Tshwane said: “We are here, in this rainy weather, to fight for our country and is future.”

Another social media user said: “Can I just say how amazing the idea of the #NationalDayofAction is? Opposition parties putting aside differences to unite for a common goal!”

While thousands march today – 12 April 2017 – to call for President Jacob Zuma to step down, he is celebrating his 75th birthday… and the man he fired in his controversial Cabinet Reshuffle – former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan – celebrates his 68th birthday!
