With these latest arrests, the total number of suspects in custody stands at six. However, two individuals initially detained on Monday, 25 March, were later cleared and released following extensive questioning.

The remaining six are scheduled to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 28 March.

“[This] will serve as an indication that no one is above the law and that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that alleged perpetrators are brought to book,” said Kwena.

TEAM’S EFFORTS LEAD TO SAFE RETURN OF TEENS

The South African previously reported on the efforts of the multi-disciplinary team, comprising various law enforcement units, for their relentless pursuit of justice. Their dedication led to the safe recovery of Zahraa Mohammed (17) and Bataviya Mohammed (19) on Monday, 25 March, from a residence in New Stands, Klipgat.

Despite the ordeal, the cousins were found to be in relatively good health, albeit exhausted and traumatised. Paramedics at the Klipgat police station’s Victims Friendly Room (VFR) assessed their condition before reuniting them with their families. They were free from visible injuries.

Meanwhile, Humphrey Martin, the seventh suspect apprehended earlier on Friday, 8 March, remains in custody. Having appeared in court on multiple occasions, Martin awaits further legal proceedings, with his bail application set for Monday, 8 April.

As the investigation continues in the kidnapping case, authorities remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice. They are determined to hold all perpetrators accountable for their actions.
