South Africa ranked third most miserable country after UK

South Africa has been ranked as the third most miserab;le place in the world for mental health after the UK and Uzbekistan.

The United Kingdom is ranked second place for the most miserable country in the world, followed by South Africa.

SOUTH AFRICA RANKED THIRD

The Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) assessment reports that South Africa ranks the third most miserable country in the world. The country was in the bottom three out of 71 countries with a mental health score of 50.

Pretoria News reveals that the Mental State of the World Report is an annual report of the Global Mind Project released in March 2024. The data is collected from over 500 000 respondents in 13 languages across 71 countries that spanned nine regions in 2023.

The Global Mind Project says the data was collected using the MHQ assessment. This is an online survey of cognitive and emotional capabilities that provides an overall mental wellbeing metric (the MHQ score).

FirstPost reveals that South Africa is dealing with high crime rate, persistent inequality and economic challenges.

LIST OF OTHER MISERABLE COUNTRIES

Uzbekistan is the most miserable country in the world followed by the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil and Tajikistan.

The bottom five most-miserable countries in the world include Australia. Egypt, Ireland, Iraq and Yemen.

The study stated: “Overall, the insights in this report paint a worrying picture of our post-pandemic prospects.”

“We urgently need to better understand the drivers of our collective mental wellbeing. We can align our ambitions and goals with the genuine prosperity of human beings.”

The happiest place in the world is the Dominican Republic, followed by Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Panama and Malaysia.
