Many people are fascinated by the British Royal Family and the details of their lives often spark curiosity.

Here are 10 interesting and unusual facts about the Royal Family you may not have known …

1. KING CHARLES’ SHOELACES ARE IRONED

According to Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, staff iron King Charles III’s shoelaces and press his pyjamas.

Burrell revealed details of King Charles’s lifestyle in the documentary “Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm” saying that King Charles III “has his valets squeeze one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush every morning”.

2. ROYAL FAMILY’S CORGIS

Queen Elizabeth owned more than 30 corgis in her lifetime. Her love of corgis began as a young girl, when she decided at the age of seven that she wanted one of her own, the BBC reported.

3. KING CHARLES DATED DIANA’S SISTER

Before Charles courted and married Diana, he dated her older sister, Sarah. She did not intend on marrying him as she wasn’t in love with him. Years later, she introduced her younger sister, Diana, to Charles.

4. ROYAL FAMILY’S EXEMPTION FROM DRIVING LICENCES

The monarch can drive without a licence or licence plates on their car in the UK, reported Harper’s Bazaar. They don’t even need to take a driver’s test. All other royals are required to have a valid licence.

5. NO PASSPORT FOR THE KING

In addition to not needing a driver’s licence, King Charles also does not need a passport for international travel.

6. PRINCE HARRY IS ACTUALLY PRINCE HENRY

Prince Harry’s real name is Henry Charles Albert David even though he is known as Harry.

“My name is Henry. But everyone calls me Harry. I have no idea why,” he said.  

7. THE QUEEN HATED WEDGES

The Queen reportedly hated the look of wedged shoes and therefore royal women didn’t wear wedges while attending events with her. Catherine, Princess of Wales, has often been seen wearing wedges, but it was only at events that Queen Elizabeth was not attending.

8. DO NOT EXPECT AN AUTOGRAPH FROM THE ROYALS

The Royal Family does not allow its members to sign autographs. The reason for this is to avoid people trying to forge their signature.

9. NO POLITICAL PARTY FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY

Members of the Royal Family aren’t allowed to show support to any political party, but should rather remain politically neutral.

10. NO CALLING A TOILET A TOILET

Royals must remain proper in conversations. This means avoiding words like “toilet”. Apparently this word is completely unacceptable and royals must use the word “lavatory” instead. According to Jerramy Fine, author of “The Regal Rules for Girls”, this rule is not optional, but imperative.
