Bafana Bafana is set to bag a hefty sum at the end of the AFCON 2023 tournament this Sunday. How much is the team’s cut?

Bafana Bafana are guaranteed millions of Rands for their efforts to reach the semifinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Hugo Broos’ men defied the odds and got out of the group stages alive before beating Morocco and Cape Verde in the Last 16 and quarterfinals respectively.

They will now face the Super Eagles of Nigeria at Stade de Bouake on Wednesday night in what will be a repeat of the 2000 AFCON edition.

At the time, Nigeria beat Bafana Bafana 2-0 to advance to the final. The South Africans, on the other hand, would finish third at the end of the tournament.

Now, by reaching the semifinals, Bafana Bafana are guaranteed a huge paycheque from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

BAFANA BAFANA GUARANTEED R47 MILLION AT AFCON

With CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe having announced an increase in AFCON prize money prior to the start of the finals, teams were motivated to give it their all.

Now, Bafana Bafana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are all guaranteed a whopping R47 million each no matter what happens.

The two teams that will advance to the final will battle it out for the ultimate prize money of R131 million as per Motsepe’s promise.
