Ernst Middendorp resigns as Singida Fountain Gate coach!

Former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Ernst Middendorp has resigned as head coach of Tanzanian outfit Singida Fountain Gate FC with immediate effect.

Former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Ernst Middendorp has resigned as head coach of Tanzanian outfit Singida Fountain Gate FC with immediate effect.

Middendorp had been in the job for two weeks after joining Singida Fountain Gate on 4 September.

This was soon after his return from Germany where he also quit at German outfit SV Meppen where he had a short spell following his arrival in March 2023.

Now, Middendorp has quit three coaching jobs in the space of six months, and he’s back in South Africa, perhaps to try and find a new club.

According to a statement released by Middendorp, Singida Fountain Gate management somehow undermined him and his job.

Middendorp said the management made wholesale changes to the playing personnel but the group was responding well to his philosophy.

As a result, they beat Egyptian club Future FC 1-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend but the management felt they should have won by a bigger scoreline.

Furthermore, Middendorp said a former assistant coach was brought back effective immediately while the management questioned his team selection.

A number of players who were supposed to be in the starting line-up and those were not supposed to be were mentioned in an urgent meeting called by the Singida management a day after the win over Future FC.

And without trying to argue with his bosses, Middendorp, therefore, chose to walk away from the job after just two weeks.
