Jose Riveiro impressed with Makgopa’s growth
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has shared how impressed he is by star striker Evidence Makgopa’s growth after AFCON.
Fresh from Afcon with Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is happy with striker Evidence Makgopa’s growth.
The Pirates mentor, Riveiro expresses delight after Makgopa was in action against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

Riveiro says he is happy and expects Makgopa to continue with his form at the AFCON showpiece with Bafana.
With Makgopa’s contribution upfront, Bafana are the bronze winners as number three and Riveiro wants more from him.

The reigning Nedbank Cup holder, Riveiro explains the decision to play Makgopa against Sundowns despite coming from Afcon.
“I’m not saying this because I noticed any difference already,” says Riveiro about Bafana striker Makgopa.

“But I’m sure that he’s not the same player anymore.
“He was in a top continental tournament competing with many players who are already having a career in Europe in top sides.
“Seven weeks camping with his mates, with other exceptional players around him.
“So, all of those experiences obviously are going to play a big role in Evidence’s career.
“And I’m really glad that he finally got the opportunity that probably we were all looking for and expecting from him since the moment that he signed for Pirates.”

The Buccaneers, Pirates mentor Riveiro adds that Makgopa was still growing under his guidance, and that’s why he was not a regular.
“One year ago, for many, many different reasons it wasn’t possible,” adds Riveiro on Bafana star Makgopa’s role.
“Not because he didn’t try but like I explained many times he didn’t start the season with the same opportunities than everybody else in his position.

“But now it’s his moment and I think he’s using his moment very well.”
Pirates will now turn their focus to their Ke Yona title defence against minnows, Crystal Lake on Saturday afternoon.
