Orlando Pirates supporters adore Jose Riveiro’s record at the club but Mamelodi Sundowns tend to trouble the relationship.

MTN8 FINAL: ORLANDO PIRATES VS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

The best match of the season so far is hours away. DStv Premiership champions will be hosted by Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 18:00.

While Pirates are currently winless in four matches, coach Riveiro’s record against Sundowns offers nothing to smile about.

JOSE RIVEIRO’S RECORD AGAINST SUNDOWNS

Since the Spaniard’s arrival in Mzansi in June 2022, Riveiro has faced Sundowns four times. Three of the matches were defeats except for last season’s 3-0 victory in the MTN8 semi-final.

  • 3-0 win
  • 2-0 loss
  • 1-0 loss
  • 0-1 loss.

Meanwhile, Riveiro is focused one thing: lifting the MTN8 trophy for the second consecutive season.

“I’m fully focused on the final and I’m not the person who’s used to drama. It’s done [the previous results], it’s gone and there’s nothing we can do anymore,” he said via TimesLIVE.

“We know we have to be prepared to execute a very good game if we want to be the champions one more time. That’s where our attention is. Try to learn from our mistakes but at the same time we don’t want to find ourselves crying in the corner [about the recent past].

“We look for the future. I think it’s an excellent opportunity for us one more time after a difficult period to be in the final, try to prove ourselves in a scenario like that,” the 46-year-old concluded.
