Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to let one of their key players go if they’re handsomely rewarded financially for that.

Edson Castillo joined Chiefs from Monagas SC and hit the ground running for Chiefs. The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the clubs midfield, both in defence and attack. His box-to-box nature has seen him make some big tackles, telling passes and even arrive late to score himself. The Venazuelen has already bagged five goals in all competitions for the club so far.

His performances have caught more than just the eye of the South African football fraternity, with some continental rivals also rumoured to be interested in taking Castillo away from Chiefs. Now with the club having refused to release him in the January transfer window, that could soon change. According to Soccer-Laduma, the Soweto giants are willing to cash in on the player for the right price.

KAIZER CHIEFS READY TO CASH IN ON CASTILLO?

“Now that the inquiry has reached the management stage they have come up with the price that would fit Castillo if he is to leave 17 Jun before 2020 his contract expires. He is a quality player and for him to attract interest from outside means they have seen something and that’s why the board and management think that the right price could be around R40 million. It’s not like there is anything official (from Zamalek) at the moment but they are preparing for any eventuality and hence they have come up with that price tag.” Said one source to the publication.

A second source claimed that Chiefs would hate to miss out on a chance to cash in on Castillo.

“You know his contract is only ending in June 2025 and his value is high because he is an international player and he didn’t come cheap to Chiefs as well. They are considering all those things for them to charge any team that would want to sign him whether it’s this season or just before the end of his contract. I don’t think they would want to wait for him to end his contract before cashing out on him. So they will make sure whatever offer comes through meets their demands which at the moment stands at R40 million,” said the second source.
