Victor Osimhen could miss clash against Bafana

Nigeria confirmed that top striker, Victor Osimhen missed the team’s flight due to an injury and may be forced to miss the Bafana clash.

Nigeria could be without their starman Victor Osimhen when they play Bafana Bafana in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations(Afcon) on Wednesday.

The Napoli talisman has started all of the Super Eagles’ five matches so far but scored once in the tournament.

The 24-year-old was was stretchered off in stoppage time during Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-finals.

Although much focus was on him before the tournament, it was his teammate Ademola Lookman who pushed the Super Eagles forward at this year’s Afcon game. The England-born forward has netted three goals.

A statement from Nigeria revealed that Osimhen missed the team’s flight to Bouake on Monday due to “abdominal discomfort” as per Goal.com.

The striker will be assessed again on Tuesday according to The Athletic.

“Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouake today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm,” read the statement.
