Warning: These Kaizer Chiefs stats are not pretty

In 2022-23, the Kaizer Chiefs notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature.

Kaizer Chiefs fans won’t want to be alerted to some worrying trends.

GOALS CONTINUE TO BE THE PROBLEM FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

In 17 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature.

DEFENCE WASN’T GREAT EITHER

Not only did Chiefs have the lowest goal tally of last season’s top six, but they also had the worst defensive record in the top five. Only Stellenbosch (38) conceded more than their 33 goals in the top six. Those problems at both ends continue to plague them in 2203-24. Outgoing club captain Itumeleng Khune won’t be around next season with new deals handed to Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma. Will the club go out and sign a new number 1 or stick with their current options?
