In an Instagram post on its official social media page on Thursday, the Cableway Company confirmed that Gerda Pretorius from Bloemfontein was surprised with a special gift hamper when she and her husband arrived at the cableway station this morning.

Waiting their turn to board the cable car, Gerda Pretorius was pulled from the queue and told that she was the 31 millionth visitor.

It was her first time back to Table Mountain in over 30 years.

The Aerial Cableway first opened its doors on 4 October 1929, and has since then has (now) transported over 31 million visitors up the mountain’s sharp inclines, offering them stunning 360-degree vistas of the Mother City.

As reported by The South African website, a recent study revealed that the mountain was the fifth most popular natural wonder of the world.
