Popular South African radio and TV presenter Darren Scott is out of surgery and will now begin his road to recovery. His wife, Sarah-Kate, reported on Facebook this evening that her husband is in recovery after a successful five-hour operation today.

Darren announced on Facebook yesterday that his melanoma cancer had returned for the fourth time (joking that it should now be put into a “stalker” category).

Sarah-Kate, former Mrs South Africa, posted a photo of fireworks with the happy announcement: “Celebration time! Darren is out of theatre! I just got a call from his surgeon saying the 5-hour procedure was long and technical but he is very happy with his work today.”

Sarah-Kate said that “Darren is in recovery, in a lot of pain but it is been managed very carefully. So grateful! Thank you again for the overwhelming support! ‪#‎Kicking‬ ‪#‎Cancer‬.”

Messages of support had flooded in for the Scott family from South Africans all over the world after Darren’s announcement yesterday. The family have not only endured bouts of cancer with Darren, but also successfully fought a battle against cancer when their eldest son was diagnosed at the age of 18 months.

Yesterday Darren compared his battle ahead with a football match, saying “See it as: I am Arsenal, the cancer is Spurs. And Arsenal NEVER lose to Spurs. (Would’ve used a Sharks analogy but this season…I might be in trouble!).”

Today Sarah-Kate said: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the messages and phone calls from every corner of the globe! I know Darren is so humbled by the support during this time! ‪#‎Kicking‬ ‪#‎Cancer‬ ‪#‎Warriors‬.”
