ANC Deeply Saddened by Death of Jacob Zuma’s Son

The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed its condolences and says it is “deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma, the youngest of the children born to Former President Jacob Zuma and the late Mrs Kate Zuma.”

Vusi passed away last night in Johannesburg after a short illness, according to the government’s news service.

According to reports in Times Live, Vusi was 25-years-old.

Vusi was a young child of about eight when his mother died, from suicide in 2000.

The ANC said Monday: “A bright and promising young lion and disciplined member of the ANC, Nhlakanipho Zuma was a dedicated and a humble activist who took keen interest in the livelihoods of our people.

“His acts of kindness and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts.

“The ANC conveys its sincere and heartfelt condolences to Comrade Jacob Zuma, his family and close friends and comrades of Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa also conveyed his condolences, saying: “I wish to convey, on behalf of government and all South Africans, our heartfelt condolences to former President Zuma, the Zuma family and relatives on the passing of their beloved son. Words cannot adequately express the pain of losing such a young family member,.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and we wish the Lord give former President Zuma strength. May the son’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

American civil rights activist and minister, Rev Jesse Jackson tweeted: “Sending prayers for and condolences to former South African President Jacob Zuma and family on the loss of their son‚ Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma. RIP.”

Nelson Mandela’s former assistant, Zelda la Grange also tweeted: “Oh my word. This is terrible. Vusi was a beautiful child. We saw him grow up. He went to Sacred Heart in Jhb. Just wondered about him the other day.”
