The Kiffness has become famous in South Africa during Lockdown for keeping the nation’s citizens entertained – and in stitches – with his parody songs… like the new national anthem he produced to make fun of tobacco laws! But this parody of the Beatles’ hit ‘Hey Jude’ is different. Watch to the end and you may find you’re moved to tears…
In his caption on YouTube, The Kiffness – aka Dave Scott – said: “Hey June, this month’s been bad. This song is not aimed at any person or any group of people. If anything, this is a song aimed at me & it was made as a form of catharsis.”

Dave says he’s sharing the song in the hopes it lifts others.
“Over the last few days I’ve done some introspection & have come to believe that there’s almost no point in getting upset with people who have views that are different to mine, (especially people that I don’t know on social media). I’ve come to learn that it’s ok to disagree on things, so long as others’ views don’t amount to hate speech, and people with opposing views can treat each other with dignity.
“With all the negative news, the hate & the cancel culture that I’ve been seeing on the internet, I began to feel quite overwhelmed & angry. I was struggling to come to terms with the irony of how those who call themselves liberals could be so cruel to people with views that are different to the popular narrative.”
So Dave did something really smart. He cut his time on social media and spent it instead doing the things that make him happy.
“Making this song made me happy. Being in Plett with my family has made me happy. I’ve learned that in order to be a positive influence, I need to be in a good headspace, and if I’m not, then I need to take a break.”
He has also partnered with aFREAKa to make a once-off KIFF Onesie which will be on sale until the end of this week. 100% of proceeds will be donated to SAFE (South African Fund 4 Entertainment), in aid of groundworkers in the South African entertainment industry.
Each onesie sold feeds a family for a month!
