South African sports star Kevin Anderson has won his opening match at Wimbledon… knocking Marcelo Vera, from Chile, out in four sets.
“The big-serving South African recovered from a set down to defeat Vera 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (4) in a clash that lasted over three hours,” said Tennis South Africa.
Kevin’s through to the Second Round, but his next match may be a bit more of a challenge. On Wednesday, the 35-year-old faces the tournament favourite, World Number 1 Novak Djokovic… against whom he lost in the Wimbledon Final in 2018. (Rivals on court, the two are friends off court and just a month later teamed up as doubles partners for a match in Canada, calling themselves Team Djokerson. See below.)

In 2019, Anderson bowed out of Wimbledon early in a shock upset when Argentine Guido Pella beat him in straight sets.
On Monday night Anderson tweeted: “I have so many special memories at @Wimbledon. It’s a pleasure to finally be back here ??”
