The son of former South African President Jacob Zuma, Edward Zuma, has been fined R60,000 which will be given to two schools in the Durban area of KwaZulu-Natal. Zuma has also agreed to apologise to the entire South African public for hate speech which he directed at SA ministers Derek Hanekom and Pravin Gordhan.

Previously he had only apologised to Hanekom, Gordhan and the ANC.

Last year, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) applied to the Durban Equality Court to find Zuma guilty of hate speech, after he made comments in an open letter to the ministers in July.

Zuma was then found guilty and fined R100,000 for the open letter.

Zuma called the pair “sell-outs” and supporters of white monopoly capital

He accused Gordhan of being “one of the most corrupt cadres of the ANC who thinks African Natives are better than just being sugar cane cutters who must be forever subservient to a master like him for sustenance.”

According to Zuma, Hanekom was “a white askari who will do anything to be an obstacle to radical economic transformation and defend white monopoly privileges.”

On Tuesday the SAHR found Zuma guilty and requested that he submit a written apology, which will be published on their website.

The apology must be written within a week, and Zuma must refrain from similar utterances in future.

According to Magistrate Irfaan Khalil, the two needy schools which will receive R30,000 each from Zuma’s fine are  Umthumbo high school, and Ohlange High school in Inanda.
